Tim Honeyfield is a senior operational and transformation leader with 15 years inside New Zealand's manufacturing and primary sector industries. He founded Value Chain Innovators to do the work he finds most meaningful: taking on complex operational challenges at a moment of consequence, and leaving organisations measurably stronger than he found them.

The track record

Tim began his career in global supply chain and product cost engineering, managing a significant international supplier portfolio and winning a global cost reduction award. He then spent nearly seven years as a senior operational leader inside a major NZ primary sector exporter — progressing from project engineering to full value stream ownership across a globally distributed primary sector operation.

During that time he delivered a concurrent seven-initiative operational transformation: a capital programme with an eight-month payback, a factory reconfiguration that doubled output capacity, a product development transformation that increased throughput more than sixfold, and a data infrastructure that gave the business planning visibility it had never had. The results were measurable, durable, and recognised externally.

Programme and transformation leadership

More recently, Tim led the recovery of a significant enterprise technology transformation for a major primary sector business — taking over as Programme Manager. He diagnosed the root cause, held a difficult position under sustained pressure, rebuilt the team and delivery approach, and saw the programme through to a functioning outcome. The change management approach his team built was recognised as the best in its category nationally.

This combination — operational depth and programme leadership — is unusual. Most transformation leaders have one or the other. Tim has both, and that is why the work tends to land differently.

The research

Tim's MBA (Distinction, University of Waikato, 2024) included rigorous primary research into the strategic challenges facing New Zealand's primary sector — a multi-round study with primary sector Chairs, CEOs and Executives on climate volatility, value chain resilience and the imperative for accelerated operational innovation.
